Turkmenistan in Central Asia has a population of 6 million, of whom 94.1% are Muslim and only 0.11% evangelical believers. With 30 unreached people groups there is urgency to share the truth of the Gospel.
However, there are considerable barriers hindering its spread, and believers could be forgiven for seeing their task as impossible. But with God we believe that all things are possible!
Turkmenistan claims to have freedom of religion, but persecution of believers is high.
Only approved activity in approved locations by approved religious communities is allowed. Unregistered religious activity is banned and punishable, with heavy fines or even prison. Christian material is restricted.
Those who have come to faith in Christ from a Muslim background can often experience strong pressure from families, friends, and villagers to deny their faith.
With so many barriers hindering the Gospel’s spread, praise the Lord that radio ministry can reach many areas where missionaries cannot operate.
SGA is providing funds for radio sets and pre-programmed SD cards which are being distributed to isolated Christians and interested non-believers. Funding for radio programmes is an essential means of providing Biblical teaching and an introduction to Christianity, as well as encouragement for persecuted believers.
This is how our partners in mission described the situation.
The church of God in Turkmenistan is developing mainly in house groups…. To spread the Good News, as well as to maintain the spiritual life of believers, we need to distribute our materials on SD cards for cell phones. We also ask you to pray for the realization of the project!
God’s Church in Turkmenistan is going through a difficult time. Religious communities are being persecuted and oppressed. Despite all this, the Church of Jesus Christ is expanding. Believers are gathering in small home groups. The Good News in Turkmenistan is spread mainly by word of mouth.
Pray that God will keep His people safe and strong as they seek to serve Him faithfully.
