East Ukraine has been embroiled in a 7-year conflict which has brought destruction and devastation. Now the question being asked is “Will there be an invasion?”
Talk of war is again in the air. News media reports state that there is evidence that Russia has plans in place to invade Ukraine early in the New Year. While Russia denies this, reports of a recent sizeable build-up of Russian military forces around Ukraine’s borders have aroused fears in Kiev and Western capitals of impending Russian military action in Ukraine.
While the world waits for the outcome of this military build-up, people continue to suffer from the daily grind of poverty, isolation, and conflict.
Over the past number of years Ukrainian churches have been serving their people by providing food, medicine, warm clothing, heaters, cookers, and other practical help. SGA has helped to fund such initiatives, and people’s physical needs have been addressed.
This winter the great need is funding for bedding.
Brothers Vladimir and Gennady, who direct the humanitarian projects in east Ukraine recently sent the following report:
“We sent another truck of help for the residents of Donbass. It consists of many essential household items that will help people survive the harsh winter. These are 600 warm blankets, 500 pillows and 460 bedding sets. We pray that this help will reach those to whom the Lord addresses it and will allow people to see the love of Christ and open their hearts to Him! God bless us all! Say hello to our brothers and sisters in the UK! “
Thank you for your support which makes it possible for SGA to provide for this crisis. Through this practical Christianity barriers to the Gospel are being removed, creating opportunities for SGA supported missionaries to share the Good News.
While people in east Ukraine face more uncertainty and the prospect of an invasion, pray that through this initiative people will feel loved, cared for, valued, but more importantly, that they will find Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord.
