LEADERSHIP SUPPORT AND LEADERSHIP TRAINING

When one considers the country of Moldova it would be easy to focus only on the struggling economic situation, the crumbling infrastructure, high unemployment and ever growing emigration numbers. However, behind all of this, God is at work…. with new church plants, opening of Houses of Prayer and people offering themselves for Christian service.

Training nationals is of pivotal importance in the ministry in Moldova, as workers are equipped for the great harvest fields. Church leaders have a desire to plant a church in every village. This is a big task but as one pastor remarked recently, “There are many opportunities for church planting; the problem is we don’t have workers.” The Mission School in Balti is seeking to prepare workers for this great task.

The graduation in November saw the number of Mission School graduates rise in excess of one hundred and fifty.

This was the seventh group of students to complete the integrated Bible course. It was a service of great significance for those who received their diplomas and were commissioned into the Lord’s service. Many friends and family gathered to hear the students share in the service, expressing their deep appreciation for the School. A number of the men are involved in village evangelism and the ladies reaching the children with the Gospel.

This is a special time for reaching children in Moldova. There are now Communist camps which are influencing many young lives, but the church is seizing the opportunity. Christian leaders see children’s evangelism in the villages as a present means of church planting. By reaching the children, homes and villages have been opened up to the Gospel. The current group of twenty seven students which commenced studies on the 21 January, includes a number of ladies who are dedicated to reaching children

for Jesus through orphanage work, schools, clubs, camps and church-based ministry.

Churches are generally planted by a couple moving into a village and making contact with the people. They will invite people into their home and present the Gospel to them. As people repent a small group is formed. The next step is to have a small building so that people will feel more at ease to attend rather than meeting in the home of a villager. SGA is active in helping in this situation and has funded sixteen Houses of Prayer and five portable halls. In November the SGA team attended the dedication of a Prayer House in Okteabriskoe. The brass band played as the congregation arrived. It was a service of praise and thanksgiving to God for His provision. A number of such services in other villages have been conducted over the past few months. However, the call keeps coming for more funds! Another two villages urgently need Prayer Houses.

These are changing scenes in Moldova. God’s people are moving forward. More and more villages are being reached. Church buildings are opening to the glory of God. Children are taught the truth of God’s Word. People are dedicated to service. Jesus said, “I will build my church.”

Please pray for Moldova.
