Now I Can Buy Bread
“Thank you for this gift!
After three days with nothing - only water
– now I can buy bread.”
“We are so grateful for you
having sent this gift to help me with the
children. I cannot express feelings, only
to thank you for this great gift.”
“When your gift came to me,
my tears began to flow. Although I needed
it, I thought of those who needed it more.”
“Thank you – you are
doing a great thing. It is a pity we are
not able to thank you personally.”
“The Lord is so faithful
in caring for the widows.”
“ We are very thankful for
your help. Please give our special gratitude
to everybody who supports us.”
“What number of widows am
I limited to helping, because there are
so many?” - This is how one
Pastor replied when he was asked to identify
widows in his village church who required
urgent help!
Do we need to say more?
The Widows’ Project was launched in
November 2001 and our vision was centred
on the phrase from Job which says, “I
caused the widow’s heart to sing for
joy.” Those who receive help
are either elderly widows who have no family
to care for them, or widows who still have
children to support.
Our initial goal was to assist 250 widows
with a £50 cash gift each, to meet
their pressing needs over the winter. Their
needs vary from paying gas or electricity
bills, or the purchase of winter fuel. The
gift could also be used to purchase food
or clothing, available in-country.
The needs of many widows are enormous!
The project has now been running for two
years and so far we have already helped
over 1,500 widows in Bulgaria, Hungary,
Kazakstan, Moldova, Ukraine, Serbia and
Romania.
In our affluence today, do we still acknowledge
our complete dependence on God to supply
our daily necessities?
Many, in parts of Central and Eastern Europe
and Central Asia, do not only give thanks
to God for their food, they plead with Him
to supply it! The economical situation for
many is critical and inflation continues
to affect ordinary people on a daily basis.
WILL YOU HELP?
Just £50 will help a widow to survive
another harsh winter and provide some of
the basic needs that we in the West take
for granted.

heart to sing for joy, send your gift to:
